Formosan Sugars.
In reply we beg to scate that we might,
probably would, wish to use some of these sugers provided
they could be laid down on equally favourable terms to other
kinds.
We understand that a bounty on Formosan
Sugars has beon, and still is, granted by the Formosan Govern-
-mont, but only on sugara for export to Japan. This bounty, we
learn, will be discontinued some time during next year. An
export duty of 50 or 56 sen per picul, depending on quality,
hitherto levied on sugars exported to other countries than
Japan, has been discontinued from 1st. instant.
